Message from Dave Markham, CEC President/CEO
To Our Members:
Power of Community is a networked group of electric cooperative ratepayers who want to track energy policy development in Washington, D.C.; Salem, Ore.; and throughout the Northwest. I hope you will consider joining Power of Community. Here's why.
One of the biggest challenges facing electric cooperatives is properly balancing our economic and environmental responsibilities. This has become especially true today due to growth in laws and regulations driven by such concerns as climate change, renewable energy development, air and water quality issues, and fish and wildlife protection.
Certainly, such issues are important and deserve attention. However, we often hear about them as individual or isolated events without a direct and clear understanding of their economic affects. Ultimately all have impacts on the costs of producing and delivering electricity. By joining Power of Community you will be made aware of legislative and regulatory activity in these areas and understand how they impact you economically. By working with the Oregon Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Central Electric will give you regular, timely updates on emerging issues.
By being informed, you are in a position to decide whether the benefits justify the costs. Whatever conclusion you come to, you may want to inform your elected officials in our state's and nation's capitals. That will be up to you.
However you feel about any individual issue, your involvement in the public dialogue is valuable. Please join Central Electric and many other Oregon electric cooperatives in the Power of Community program.
Stay informed and ensure that state, regional and national energy policies reflect your concerns.
Thank you.
